Episode 20 - The lightbulb moment

July 14th, 2015
Lighting is quite important for a fit out and depending on the brief and desired outcomes, will depend on the quality of lighting used. This episode Greg explains the importance of lighting in a fit out but also the shift to LED lighting for cost effectiveness and sustainability. We also briefly mention how cool the mantis shrimp is... That's a whole episode on its own!

Episode 10 - The Tesla PowerWall and Architecture

May 4th, 2015
Currently virtually all of our power comes from grid and Australia is one of the most expensive countries for electricity in the developed world.
The Grid is sized for peak demand, (typically when the kids get home from school, and when people get home from work) but power stations can’t just switch off when not needed so power at peak times and cheaper at off peak times (like overnight when fewer people are using it).
The effects are twofold, grid powered electricity goes up, greater economies of scale for solar drives price of solar down. This is referred to as the “death spiral” for coal.
This is a worry for the government as they need to re-coup the 4.5 billion in infrastructure.
